Learn Spanish at Instituto Picasso

Instituto Picasso is located on the lively Plaza de la Merced, the student square of Málaga. Close to many of the city's cultural attractions, including historic Gibralfaro. Málaga is a pleasant city where you can get everywhere quickly. So also from Instituto Picasso, you can walk to the popular shopping street Calle Larios in just a few minutes and you can be on the beach in about 15 minutes. And fun fact: a few houses next to the school is the birthplace of the famous artist Pablo Picasso, which is now a museum.

The school is located in an attractive building from the 19th century. The beautiful tiled floors, large arched windows with fine stained glass and the beautiful view from the small balcony make it a nice place to learn Spanish.

Throughout the year, Instituto Picasso offers courses for students of all levels and ages, supplemented with fun outdoor activities such as cultural outings and guided tours. The school, accredited by Instituto Cervantes, has a team of expert teachers who are all native Spanish speakers. And with a maximum group size of 10 students, everyone receives a lot of personal attention.

Whenever I had questions about changing classes, prolonging my stay in the appartment, the school staff could perfectly help me. Teachers and classes were also very good and helped me to quickly improve my level of spanish (from almost no knowledge to A2+/B1). Even though I cannot tell for other schools in Malaga, I am sure you wont regret staying at Instituto Picasso.

Having not studied for many years, the intensive approach was a challenge for me, but the staff was supportive and into the 2nd week I realized the hard work was paying off. I still have to review the course content to really know it, but am motivated to continuing studying Spanish here in Amsterdam this summer (Uva) and hope to be able to communicate adequately when I go the Mexico for the winter months. Best of all I met some great people and the Insituto's location ( Plaza de Merced) was a great place to hang out.

First day was bit intimidating as classes are done totally in Spanish and teachers talking at their normal pace. I mentioned it to another guy in class and he told me by your 2nd week its actually helps you get the rhythm of normal speaking Spanish. Indeed by the end of my first week I could understand pretty much everything being spoken at normal pace which was a big improvement for me in a week.
Course was very very intensive. I had done a 2 week course elsewhere and covered more in a 1 week course in the Instituto Picasso than in the 2 week course I had done previously.
You have one teacher than covers different subjects in the first part of the morning and then a different teacher for a conversation class every morning up until lunch. It’s a great way to help you develop listening to different voices, accents etc and also introduces you to every teacher in the school so you feel very integrated.
Private classes with Carmen were great. Rather than just conversation she identified a couple of area I had problems with and concentrated on them and I felt I made great progress in only a week. By my last day I had totally found the rhythm and was speaking a lot more fluently and relaxed and that was only after 1 week!!
Another thing, in my last school I found it really difficult to understand what other students were saying in class with the masks. Here I could understand everything even though we were still wearing masks. The acoustics were much better in the classroom.
Overall a fantastic experience. Class was a lot of fun too. Students improving everyday(you can hear it). Great atmosphere. Great city. I think the way Spanish is taught here it would be possible to learn it super fast and super well compared to other schools. After only 1 week my Spanish went to a totally different level.
Hi to Elena, Carmen and all the other teachers and thanks for your help.👋

I learnt a lot and had a wonderful time during my 12 months at the school. I experienced quality teaching at a centrally located school.
I met my learning objectives, inspirational teachers, and great friends.

Intensive course material (school’s own course books):
Clearly set out, explanatory and appropriate to my level of understanding (useful for familiarisation and revising).
More visual /audio equipment/ technology may have enhanced my experience. My learning objectives were met, though.

The teaching:
I benefited from a mix of fabulous teachers with their own personalities, methods and:
incredible language knowledge; dedication and commitment; enthusiasm; patience; interest in all cultures; joy; laughter; thought-provoking questioning; humour; calmness; passion; and genuine interest in you, the individual.

Here are some positive teaching characteristics which I experienced:

Toni: shared concepts clearly, with personality & professionalism; Elena: adaptability, student focus /care, music enthusiast; Laura: superb language knowledge & passion: Jorge: humour, encouragement, & innovation; Gema: motivational & joyful lessons; Carmen: classroom management; Angel: equal opportunity to speak/ shared interesting cultural information; Isabel: grammar points delivered with impeccable clarity & a smile; JD: spectacular language knowledge; Uli: calm, patient approach; Olivia: patience, perception, & drawing out potential; Ana: interesting discussion and games to enhance grammar points, & Violeta: engaging conversation classes, reinforcing prior learning points in a memorable way.

Activities and Excursions:
Gave me a chance to meet others, practise Spanish, and make friends.

School admin and management:
Very supportive. They helped me find solutions to things that came up before and during the course. Mel and Inessa spoke to me with professionalism, warmth, and a fabulous sense of humour. They, Conchi and the team, welcomed me with a smile.

Private Lessons:
Jorge was brilliant, focusing on areas which helped achieve my learning objectives.

DELE B2 preparation course:
Superbly delivered by Laura. She provided excellent exam tips and boosted my confidence.

Things that I am thankful for, or wish I’d done:
1. Fantastic excursions
2. The weekly Taberna-de-Jarana-quiz-night (run superbly by Violeta at Antonio’s cracking bar).
3. I moved from morning to afternoon sessions and vice versa (twice). It was possible by giving the office plenty of notice and because class capacity and occupancy permitted it at the time. There were different teachers in the morning versus the afternoon, which enriched my overall experience given the length of my stay.
4. At various stages I felt I needed to reinforce some of the learning points. I paid for private lessons when I needed them.
5. Self reflected after lessons (what went well/ what needed work).
6. I enjoyed the diversity of classmates attending a varying number of weeks.

Summary:
I believe that the intensive course I underwent was value-for-money and shared large volumes of content. It suited my learning needs and budget. On the occasions I needed extra support or flexibility, the school had a provision for that.

(A long review after a long stay! )
